Inventory suggestions (Gaile and Alex):
1) Put a simple toggle button at the top of each bag/pouch to designate a default "picked up items go here" location.
2) Allow us to buy/find/collect stuff to trade for (with a collector)/craft backpacks and replace the bags and pouch with it (but keep a maximum 4 locations still, eg 4 backpacks max), also allow a bag to replace the pouch. This will make for another sink and allow us the extra personal inventory space a lot of players want.

In the discussion, I did want to add another feature to remember: At some point, we will have shared account storage. It may then no longer be needful for you to have so many bags and other storage devices, or to worry about how things sort or the number of storage squares in each.
The shared account storage system may not be present when we release, but I believe it will be added in one of the updates soon thereafter, if that is the case. While it's certainly of benefit to talk about the backpacks, belts, and bags, I'm sure you'll agree that this whole discussion also needs to keep that important overarcing storage feature as part of what we consider necessary and useful.

Yes, I know I'm probably going to be slaughtered by the original poster for this ... but it's simple. If I pick up something I may not want to sell at a later date, I put it in one of the three extra bag slots immediately (doesn't take long). If I don't care about the item, it sits in the main bag where the game put it.
|
You know you'll get slaughtered because deep in the recesses of your mind, you remember a time when you were a newb and weren't focussed on inventory management. You remember a time when after play time, you threw your clothes on the floor instead of having to hang up your suits and ties. You remember when things were simple instead of needlessly complex. You know you'll get slaughtered because deep down, you know that you agree with me.
Who does the multiple bag system appeal to? What type of person? Now ask yourself, does that type of person exist in the majority or the minority in the Guild Wars demographic? I don't know if Guild Wars has a mission statement but from everything I've seen, I think it would revolve around being a game built for the masses, not the hardcore elite. Does the current inventory system meet that goal?
I'll re-iterate my answers to the above questions. 1 & 2.) Very organized people that like micro-management as it applies to "putting everything in its place". 3.) Minority....25% tops if we're going from the Meyers-Briggs personality profile or whatever that thing is called. I just know their color is yellow. 4.) No, the inventory system does not appeal to the masses. Look on any thread and you will find the majority either wholeheartedly hate it or are trying to find ways to deal with its shortfalls. Not even the yellows love it as is.....they want automated rules a la MS Outlook to filter all of their items automatically.
With a process as common as inventory access, you have to constantly be thinking quick, easy, painless. With the addition of ID kits, we have 4 choices to consider with each new item. I don't think you can get away with saying that it's simple with each new item you pick up, you have to make a snap decision as to keep (sell or use), ID, salvage or expert salvage and then filter into the appropriately memorized bag. Oh yeah, all your items from past BWE won't combine with like current items so now everything takes up twice the space.

Yes, there could possibly be some improvements. But by golly, you're witness to a system that is obviously still under refinement. Posting suggestions is fine, but repetitively attacking the devs about it is perhaps going a little over the top, don't you think?
|
I understand these things take a bit of time to get right but it's been over 2 months. Furthermore, this isn’t brain surgery. I realize I’m going hindsight here but I can’t believe that most of these problems couldn’t be foreseen. I detected them all in about 10 minutes of play after the new inventory was introduced and it was validated by all the in-game complaining and on the forums. If I’m going over the top here, it’s because the devs obviously aren’t listening.
No one is completely happy with the inventory system and some of their disdain for it exists from “I’d say strong to…..quite strong”.

Instead of F9 bind "open all bags" to i again - if people ( ^^^ ) cant handle that the total bag area is graphically partitioned I despare on any improvement over the original mess falling on good soil.

if it was as universally condemed as the very vocal complainers seem to imply it would be so easy to simply give a big playbox for your toys and leave it at that
if they dont they are trying to please a bigger audience than you represent
i for one like it

The inventory items are already enchanted -- how else do you explaing stuffing a suit of armor, a warhammer, a double-bladed axe, a longsword, and a longbow into your belt-pouch? **twiddles fingers** Magic...
The real question is, if you stick your bag into your backpack, will it tear open an interdimensional rift? I wanted to try it, but the game wouldn't let me.

It's quite likely all of them were foreseen. None of them, however, were big enough to outweigh the advantages, in the developers' opinions.

That they existed? Sure. That they're a problem worth bothering with? Please. If one were to decide how serious an issue is based on the amount of complaining that occurs, obviously the level cap is a more serious problem with the game than the inventory system.
I also find it interesting that you think the majority of players are unhappy with it. Seeing as how neither random chatter, complaints posted to a forum, nor self-selected surveys could possibly give one this knowledge, one assumes you're either deluded into actually thinking one or all of these three things could tell you that, or you're hiding some actual data you've failed to disclose.

If that seems obvious to you, you're a fool. Has it not occured to you that they are listening, they just don't always agree with you? This isn't brain surgery...

what about gold??
I have 4 players on the one account. What I want is a way to get gold with one char i.e. my ranger and then give it to another char i.e. my Necro. The only way I can do it now is to: 1 give all my gold to the other person I am playing with. 2 logout. 3 login with my other char. 4 find the same person again.5 get all of the gold back. You can see how this is very time consuming and a pain in the A$$!!! CAn anybody think of a better way?

Granamyr, I wouldn't presume to know what Gaile or anyone besides yourself thinks. I'm suprised your trolling still gets official responses. I like the system for many of the reasons stated. I didn't know you could open all the bags at once, so thanks for that tip, guys.

Sorry but being new here wanted to put in my two cents. After I found how to get to other bags. I did like the inventory. I would like it larger I don't throw things away in real life either.
I didn't like having to pay so much for another bag. but I like being able to move stuff I don't want to lose by accident to another bag. In another game I play I have lost stuff by selling by accident cause it is all one bag unless you already put it in your packer. But sometimes you want to keep it with you. Such as I lost one of my knives last night.
I don't know what the system was like before, but in my opinion, it seems fine. But then it has to be really easy for me to understand anything.

The only thing That I dislike is the need to have space for wepons switching. And that the wepons don't stay in the bag's that you put them in.
That is the only thing to me that is intolerable.

With shared account storage I hope that the current bag system will not be completely wiped. I like to carry all my items with me and not have to return to town or an outpost to be able to retrieve them [such as making a trade with a random player during a quest ]... With the current bag system it could be expandable for long term use, as mentioned by others.

From the screenshots I've seen, you don't appear to have very much inventory space on your character. Is it possible to purchase different sized bags for more space?

So where do you get the first pack? I read in another thread that you can get a 5 slot pouch about 5 minutes into the game. And here I am almost lvl 7. I obviously missed something.
